Blue Ridge Fiber works is an artisan cooperative with a tradition of knowledge. As one of two partners, we are working toward our ultimate goal of renewing an interest in the fiber arts in this region of Southwest Virginia/Northwest North Carolina.
To achieve this lofty goal, we are working with farmers to show them the value in their wool. Previously a by product, or a nuisance to the sheep farmer, the wool harvested from the sheep of the blue ridge mountains is being milled into local luxury yarns, when mixed with various other local fibers.
If you are a farmer in this area, let us know how we can help you.
Once the wool is harvested, local yarn shops are designing their own yarns, and we are making their ideas come alive. Exclusive blends are being produced by the closest mills available, and marketed to the discriminating yarn buyer as a local product.
It is the hope of the partners that a locally made product will be the catalyst for renewing interest in the fiber arts. We'd like to set up the next generation to resurrect textile manufacturing on a small scale and local level.
